How to make a Black Blythe (Field report, no tutorial)

First of all get some SEM paint from Ebay USA, all other colour will peel off the legs (I tried it myself, trust me, it hurts when this happens to your Blythe after all that work!!). To prepare the parts, sand everything gently even the body with fine sanding paper. Wash the parts with oilfree soap and hang up the body (see pic below) somewhere outside. Shake your SEM well and spray parts and body carefully.

A tip I read at LouLouBlue’s great BB tutorial which is no longer available afak is to spray less paint in many coats. The risk painting the whole body at once is it won’t dry! I am pretty impatient and spray the 3-5 coats a body every 30 minutes and it works for me. But make sure the paint isn’t sticky anymore before adding a new coat!

Once you are done and happy with the coating let her dry a day and a night to be sure. In case the legs stay sticky use some baby powder to absorb humidity. (Yes, it works!)

If you have problems with Takara bodies that don’t dry my advice is to use Licca or ADG bodies instead.

That’s it! Get her some cool mohair or something you like, weft or reroot her scalp, paint her lips, make her up and taadaaaa… Black Blythe is done!

Have fun trying yourself!
