The Gluestick Method: Blythe Eyechip Change w/h Head Opening

You are sick of stock chips especially the orange ones but too chicken to change them!?? Well, maybe this little Dr. Jasz tutorial about the gluestick method will change your mind! It is really easy and the best of all: You do not need to open her head!!

In case you need to colour the pupil of your new chips first, please start doing so because you need to let dry the colour. »How to colour the pupil save and easy

 

Step 1: Get out the old Chips

 

 

 

Material

• the girl
• 1 or 2 gluesticks
• cutter
• tape

*not pictured*

• a lighter
• a pair of other eyechips
• colour for the pupil (if demanded)
• tweezers
• watersoluble glue

 

 

 

1. Protect her lashes using tape. Before taping I touch the tape with my fingers making it less sticky to avoid tape residue in her lashes afterwards and to protect her eyeshadow.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to keep her lashes, tape them short before you change the chips! Don’t leave her like this too long or the lashes will keep the quirky position you forced with the tape! 

 

2. I prefer a peakish gluestick and so I cut it in the preferred shape.

3.1. Get a lighter, melt the peak of the gluestick and push it onto the center of the chip.

3.2. Wait a little and hold the stick until it is no longer flexible (20 sec.) and go on with the second eye.

4. Then wait a little – how long depends on the quality of your gluesticks. I recommend to wait not too long when you want to keep the lashes… remember: Forced into this position they will keep it when taped too long!

Me personally, I am very impatient so I wait approx. 3 min. and that’s enough most of the time. I have a rule of thumb: As soon the gluestick isn’t flexible anymore while trying SOFTLY to turn it, you can go on, otherwise wait a little longer.

Problems that MAY occur from time to time:
You may find out some chips are terribly tricky to get out and sometimes you even need to drill them out but believe me: this is very very rare!!! Most of the chips come out with the first try! From time to time I need 2 or 3 tries. If they are still sticky then, call your hubby, your brother or your mom to drill the chip out or send the dolly over to Dr. Jasz! XD

After some minutes take the first gluestick and turn it with decidedness (see picture and mind especially the position of my right hand!), don’t fool around or be chicken… TURN IT! or the gluestick will come out without the chip and believe me: The residue on the chip is worse than having the balls to turn this stick, huh!? ;P 

5. Free her lashes if you want to keep them and to make sure they won’t keep awry.

DONE!!! Congratulations, you just got out your first pair of eyechips ;D

 

Step 2: Painting the pupil in any colour you want

 

If you are as silly as me, you may order your chips without a black pupil or you want to paint the pupil your colour anyway. Then this is the perfect and clean method to do it!

Here we go:

1. You will need acrylic paint in your preferred colour. I recommend Tamiya Color Acrylic Paint. You may find it in artist supplies or a shop where those crazy model makers (you know planes, ships or trains they build and paint) get their stuff ;D

 

2.1. Shake the colour well, open it, open your chips, get the tweezers (pic 1)

2.2. dip your first chip with help of the tweezers into the colour residue inside the cap of your colour glass (pic 2).

2.3. Then get the second chip with the tweezers (pic 3) and dip it onto the first chip’s foot (pic 4). You may also dip the second chip into the cap too if you want

2.4 Let dry the chips.

 

Step 3: Insert new Eyechips

1. First of all: Clean Eyeholes! I use an Exacto knife or a tiny flat screwdriver to do it. Don’t start with home remedies, Q-tips and stuff, just get out the residue without to write your dissertation! Be careful and it works!

2.1. Get watersoluble hobby glue (the stuff you would give your children without to be afraid of them getting junkies), I use UHU hobby glue, I am not sure if this one is international, it is very good, I find!

2.2. I always make a drop of glue coming out the peak (see pic 1), not much, just a bit and drop it into the eyehole (pic 2). Repeat with the second eyehole.

I hope you can see the tiny amount of glue in each eyehole in pic 3 (if not, there are more pics below), it is really not much but enough to cover the bottom of the hole. Make sure it is not too less, because the chip must glued into the hole. Otherwise it will fall out! In the worst case it falls into her head and then… you know…

Also don’t use too much glue or it will squeeze out around the chip’s foot later. If you use a light coloured chip with no foil behind, you will see it!

3. Then insert the chips with the help of tweezers. I always put the chip first under the lashes, position it over the hole and let it go. The same with the second chip (see pics).

4. Use your fingers to pull the chip in properly.

5. Enjoy the lucky heartbeat to see her all dolled up with her new chips and let dry the glue (if you look close you can see also my model is smiling a bit more!). I wait around 1 hour to be sure the chips are glued properly before I click around. Remember if you are too impatient it could fall out into her head…
